So, for example if a supplier of General Motors needs to purchase 300 .25 drill bits to create a very specific hole for let's say windshield wiper mount. The supplier is interested in the amount of holes the drill can create within a given (known) tolerance. The goal is to not keep replacing the drill bit. The supplier calls in multiple companies that can supply the bit and each company places the bit in a drill mount and produces a 100 drilled examples. The holes are measured by a laser device by the G.M. supplier from each of the competing companies. The test is for variance and each competing company will take a sample variance of their 100 holes. The G.M. supplier sets a tolerance for variance and the company whose confidence interval of variance falls within the guidelines gets the bid. Your job is multifold and you will need Minitab to produce this project. Step 1: In Minitab, go to Calc, Random Data, Normal and produce 100 random data points with mean = 0.25 and standard deviation = .003. Step 2: Go to Stat, Quality Tools, Acceptance Sampling by Variables, Accept/Reject Lot. Step 3: Step 4: Press OK and is the lot accepted or rejected. Step 5: Repeat the exercise four more times as there are five suppliers bidding for the job. Provide a print out of each result. Here is an example below that I did. Project II: Using the same data from Project I, read in your textbook pages 203-204 and provide a 95% confidence interval on the standard deviation of your results from each of the five samples. Keep in mind, the formula uses variance and not standard deviation, so after you have completed your confidence interval you must take the square root of the confidence interval. At the bottom of 203 is (4-62). This will help you. I want you to finally make a conclusion based on your results.
