Water at 20C(density =1000kgm3, viscosity =0.001kgm.s) flows through a turbine at 16m3h as shown in Figure 1. The lengths of the pipes are 40m,24m and 50m for the 5-cm pipe, 15-cm pipe, and 7.5-cm pipe respectively. All the pipes are made of cast iron. The 5-cm pipe consist of three 90 elbows and there is a wide open globe valve in the 7.5-cm pipe.
a) Calculate all the frictional losses in the system in Jkg.
b) Assuming the exit elevation is zero, calculate the power extracted by the turbine in kW if the efficiency of the turbine is 85%.
