Meditate on Micah 6:8 and then answer the questions that follow:
"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (ESV).
As a manager in business or ministry, these three principles are important to remember when interacting with people both inside and outside our organizations. This Scripture passage strongly supports fair value and high integrity in accounting. Clearly, there are plenty of professional motivations and ethics requiring us to perform all of the accounting functions accurately, fairly and consistently. But these words from the prophet Micah give us an even higher calling for doing things right in accounting.
What foundation are your professional values built upon? What motivates you to do the right thing each and every time? When you are tempted, or asked, to deviate ever so slightly from what you know is the right thing to do to achieve some well-meaning objective, from where do you draw your moral compass to know what to do? What effect does this verse, as well as others that we have read in the class so far, have on your perception of what you should and shouldn't do? Ultimately, why is this important?
