Meet Shawna, a librarian Imagine that you''re Nathaniel, Shawna's boss. The centennial event is still two months away Shawna still has time to leverage the strengths of others on the team and external resources. Here is the situation. The Project Shawna was recently hired in a full-time position at a public library. The mayor has asked that the library be involved in the town's upcoming centennial celebration. She and three part-time co-workers have been tasked to work together on a proposal and budget for both the two-day event and to generate some ideas for how to utilize some of the money earmarked for the celebration for much-needed capital expenditures. The Product Shawna turns in the completed product, but she completed it without much input or help from the others. Some of the ideas are very good, but a few of them are a bit \"unique\" such as taking $3,000 to turn the small side yard currently dedicated to lawn bowling into a frisbee golf course. She also made a few math errors because she added her columns by hand instead of utilizing and Excel template because she's unfamiliar with the software. Lack of Teamwork The head librarian, Nathaniel, asked Shawna why she didn't utilize the others for their input. Shawna said it was really tough to find time to meet together because of their different schedules, but they did meet once. At the meeting, one of the co-workers, Larry, went off topic, and then later argued with Joe about where to allocate money for the celebration. They ran out of time and nothing was resolved. Dan, sent an email with some ideas afterward, but Shawna didn't like any of them and none of them made it into the proposal. The library has a robust volunteer staff, many of whom have been patrons of or volunteers at the library for decades, none of whom were asked about their suggestions. Her supervisor, Nathaniel, knows that Shawna is a promising young librarian who wants to advance to a senior level position. Nathaniel also believes that Shawna has the potential to be a good leader, but feels she is impatient and judgmental when it comes to working with others. Shawna needs to develop into a better team player before Nathaniel can trust her again with a project of this magnitude
