MGMT 2000: Practical Application #225 pts.
Please read through the following steps and use a blank MS Project file to create the project.
You have decided to join your colleges pitch competition. The pitch competition is on Friday, April 26,2024. Good luck to you! You have a great idea and have always wanted to put it into place but didnt have enough money to have a prototype built. You dont know if you will have enough time because you are unavailable to work on it at all on Tuesday or Thursdays (hint: reflect this in your calendar). You are also scheduled to be gone for Spring Break on March 4th-10th,2024. You are a bit stressed out because you really want to fit this into your schedule, so you create a Project to reflect the planning that will be involved. Reflect this information in the Standard Calendar.
1. You plan to spend today, January 8,2024, applying to enter the competition.
2. You are required to meet with the director of the competition and the other contestants on January 19 and have decided not to do anything until then. The meeting will last 3 hours.
3. You find out you have to complete the following tasks: create a survey to confirm who your target market will be (2 hours), administer the survey (you will have it available online for an entire week so people can answer the questions day or night at their convenience), complete financial research (2 days), create slides (1 day), and make and practice a pitch presentation (2 days). You begin the financial research at the same time as you administer the survey online.
4. Write the dates that you Make and Practice the Pitch in the Answer Summary Table.
5. You find out you must attend two pitch boot camps to learn and practice during the week of February 12. Each camp lasts one day.
6. You need to spend 8 hrs practicing in front of friends and in a classroom. You contact your instructor and she agrees to let you do so as soon as you can. It will take you all day to track her down for her approval!
7. Once you present and get the feedback, you realize you need to update your slides and content, which will take approximately 4 hours.
8. If you get additional feedback, which you plan to receive, you plan for time to create a prototype to show people. It will probably take 12 hours to build one and costs around $126.
9. The semi-finals are April 6 and you spend the day there supporting your peers and pitching your idea. Add a note to this task to meet in A204.
10. You hope to make the final five contestants. Mark this as a milestone and enter the date into the Answer Summary Table.
11. If you make the Final Five, you will need to spend another day meeting with the director and two more days practicing in your classrooms. You will be ready to go!
12. You spend an entire full day/evening recruiting friends and family to attend the event, through phone calls, social media and more. You also register them for the event at the same time as you recruit them! Write these dates in the Answer Summary Table.
13. You spend 4 hours creating packets to outline your idea and show pictures and 6 hours printing and assembling them. You print them the day after you created them, because you took a little break for yourself. You print 65 pitch packets. They cost $2.50 each. Your sister offers to help you assemble them to save time and you take her up on her offer!
14. The pitch competition is on Friday, April 26. You know you will leave the entire day open for it.
15. Make another milestone after it called Pitch Complete and make it a RED STAR.
16. View your Critical Path. How many tasks are on the critical path? List them on the AST.
17. Change all of the Gantt Bars to be green.
18. Show your tasks into two groups Add one Summary Task Bar called Pitch Preparation and one called Final Pitch and indent the proper tasks below it. Show the costs to the right of the Summary Task Bars.
19. Create and add the following resources: yourself, instructor, director, prototype and pitch packets to the above tasks. The only work resource cost is for yourself on the days for the semis and finals. You need to take those days off of from your job and make $16/hour. This cost will get charged to your project, because you are losing out on that money and need to decide if the project is worth it or not! Only those two tasks will have your cost added.
20. Save as a Project File and as a PDF with the Standard Printing Guidelines. Answer the remaining questions on the AST and submit into the proper drop box.
