There is a new text from the publisher, FITT (7th edition). The major project has a new title and requirements. The company for this project will also be different from recent semesters. The rubric has been updated with even more emphasis on critical thinking and analysis. Students are expected to find and explain relevant data. Lists of data with little real connection to the market opportunity will only earn limited grades. The changes and expectations will be explained in detail during the first classes, so please be sure to attend. FITT PROJECT The major focus of MGMT 6131 is a comprehensive research project. Each student has the option to eventually submit this project to FITT.Outlined below is the new title (Feasibility of International Trade) and additional details. This should help you to understand how competitive intelligence will fit into your final project. CRITERIA THIS SECTION SHOULD:

Research Objectives | Define the business opportunity and outline the questions the research aimed to address. These questions should consider the feasibility of the proposed opportunity, including the viability of the import/export transaction (cost of the transaction) and the risk of the initiative. Explain why these issues are important in importing from or exporting to the markets identified. | ||
Research Design and Methodology | Identify the type of research or research strategy selected to collect the information needed. Describe which data sources and methodology will be used to address each objective. | ||
Presentation of Data and Analysis | Describe the key trends, issues and challenges identified. Include the potential risks associated with trade in the selected target market, detailed market intelligence and information on competitors. - Name and provide key corporate data on three firms for two states that are direct competitors (total 6 firms) . (18 marks)
- Identify the country in which they are based and the number of countries in which they operate.
- Do these firms operate directly or indirectly in your two markets or anywhere in North America?
- Provide an overview of their financial results or some indication of their size/scope.
- Describe any key strengths of the competitors and identify any recommendations that you believe are important for your firm to consider.
- Name and describe four (4) indirect competitors for two states in your markets (total 8 firms)? Be careful there have been recent acquisitions. Ensure that you have identified the largest global firms. Provide a brief overview of their business. Head office? What is their market share and/or coverage of your two states or countries?
- Outline the best, most relevant industry associations (minimum 5) to consider for networking with potential customers/franchisees. Do they have any regional chapters? Mission statements? Conferences? Trade journals or websites? Members? Why might these be important? (6 marks)
