MHF4U June 2022 Course Summative - In Class, Open Book TIPS Assignment Let's practice your mathematical modelling skills by combining functions we have learned this semester. Close your eyes (after you've read this sentence), and picture yourself at Canada's Wonderland...specifically at the top of the Extreme SkyFlyer. What will the graph of your height (meters) vs. time (seconds) look like? Can you develop an algebraic model for this situation based on functions we studied this semester? Of course you can! TASK: [Open the Assignment Doc on Classroom] 1. Look at the graph below and think about the different characteristics of the graph. What possible combination of functions could create this graph? 2. Determine a possible equation for the graph and explain in point form why you think this may be the correct equation. (You may need to restrict the domain for the given situation). 3. Check your equation on DESMOS (don't forget to set an appropriate Window). Are you close? Draw a sketch of the graph shown on the calculator. 4. Go back to step 2, and modify your equation. Again, explain in point form your rationale for the new equation (based on the characteristics and properties of the functions used). Continue to repeat steps 2 - 4 until you are satisfied with your equation (or until time runs out). 150 -125 -100 -75 -50 25 10 15 20 25 30 35 40
