A set of quantitative data can either be discrete or continuous Qualitative Data (Categorical Data): usually non-numeric data that describe an attribute or characteristic of the items being studied. For example, yes or no responses, gender, type of car owned, place of birth, etc. Qualitative data can involve numbers. For examples: area codes, bank accounts. Nominal Data: form of qualitative data, no particular order or rank i.e. marital status, check-out lane used in grocery store, sport, color of eyes, car brand, country. Ordinal Data: form of qualitative data similar to nominal but in an order ex: army rank, grades, medals awarded, etc. Interval: form of quantitative data, must be numeric, intervals between data values have meaning, the value 0 doesn't mean an absence of something. Ratio: 0 means absence of something ex of discrete ratio: number of vacations, number of f f 1
