Midterm Assessment - Math 6320 The problems below display to different experimental design scenarios and the data acquired through this process. Completely analyze the data verifying all assumptions needed for analysis and completed the required analysis to assessment the experimental goal. All evidence of your analysis must presented in an organized format with explanations of all findings. Additional requirements, if necessary, for each individual problem will be presented below. Problem 1: The effects of viewing \"mug shots\" on accuracy of eyewitness identification were investigated. Twenty-four subjects observed a videotape of six men who they were later asked to identify in a recognition test. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of four groups. Subjects in group A4 searched through a sequence of 75 mug shots to identify the suspects, those in group A3 searched through 50 mug shots, and those in group A2 searched through 25 mug shots. Subjects in A1 spent an equivalent amount of time looking for articles about crime in Time Magazine. Following this, the subjects were shown pictures that included the suspects and asked to identify them. The dependent variable is the number of suspects identified. The following data were obtained. Conduct an exploratory data analysis on these data to determine if a difference exists as a result of the treatment. And if a difference does exists where are those differences and what are their magnitude? A1 5 6 3 4 5 4 A2 4 3 6 3 5 4 A3 3 0 1 2 2 1 A4 0 1 0 2 1 2 Add as an addendum to your report to the researchers, how many subjects would be required in a follow-up to this pilot study in order for the experiment to have 80% power. Problem 2: The effects of strenuous to exhaustive physical exercise on the performance of a discrimination task were investigated. Seven men performed a line-matching task while jogging at various speeds on a motor-driven treadmill. The task was self-paced; a new set of lines was presented immediately following the subject's response. The dependent variable was the number of responses made during successive 3-minute periods. The periods consisted of a pretest resting state (level A1), 2.5mph exercise at a 12% grade (level A2), 3.4-mph exercise at a 14% grade (level A3), 4.2-mph exercise at a 16% grade (level A4), 5.0-mph exercise at an 18% grade (level A5), and a posttest resting stage (level A6). The following data were obtained. Complete an appropriate exploratory data analysis to determine if the mean response differed according to treatment and if so, where and the magnitude of those differences. Subject 1 Subject 2 Subject 3 Subject 4 Subject 5 Subject 6 Subject 7 A1 Pretest 45 48 46 40 34 42 55 A2 2.5 mph 47 50 54 37 41 45 58 A3 3.4 mph 48 58 51 44 38 46 54 A4 4.2 mph 50 54 57 40 48 43 60 A5 5.0 mph 51 61 56 45 41 48 57 A6 Posttest 44 51 48 34 38 41 55 Add as an addendum to your report to the researchers, how many subjects would be required in a follow-up to this study in order for the experiment to have 80% power to detect a meaningful difference as determined by you the statistical expert
