Mikkelson, Hesse, and Sloan (2017) wanted to learn if employees' job satisfaction and commitment to the organization were related to their perceptions of supervisors' communication of involvement, similarity, trust, formality, and equality with employees. They used a 41-item measure to assess perceptions of supervisors' communication. One example item is: "My supervisor communicates in ways that express trust in me
