Mini-Case: Supervisor/Employee Conflict
The Conflict:
You supervise food servers at a large restaurant. One of your servers goes to your boss and complains that youve been assigning dining room stations unfairly, giving the best and largest stations to the same few servers.
Your boss calls you in and tells you about the complaint. You explain that you assign stations systematically, basing your decisions on server experience and performance, not on favoritism. You add that the complaining server is a relatively new employee who hasn't been performing as well as the servers to whom you assign the best stations.
Your boss is satisfied with your explanation, but criticizes you for not having explained to the new employee how you assign stations. Your boss tells you to set up a meeting with the employee to (1) clear up the problem, and (2) tell the employee that he should bring problems to you, not to your boss.
