Mission Objective

The goal is to establish a live video feed of the wildfire at the command post to allow the Incident Commander to evaluate and plan to send in ground fire crews.

Details

• The fire has been reported on the peak of Tahoe Mountain.
• For safety reasons, avoid flying over South Tahoe High School.
• It must operate under FAR Part 107 rules.

Regulatory Planning

Consider the following FAR Part 107 limitations in the planning and how they apply in these circumstances. While other parts apply, for this project and time considerations, only required to address these:

1. The drone must remain within the visual line of sight at all times.
2. Can only fly during daylight.
3. The max altitude is 400 feet.

Safety & Human Factors Planning

Aside from the pre-flight inspection, make note of anything that comes to mind in this area that you would add to a planning checklist in a real-world operation such as this.

Submit a report of the mission plan that includes regulatory, safety, and human factors considerations.

• A two to three-page (or five-minute video) report that includes the following information:
  • Mission Planning Overview to include background and mission goals
  • Describe the flight planning considerations regarding airspace, obstacles, terrain, and altitude, along with any other factors that came into play.
  • Overview of regulatory constraints and actions needed to accomplish the mission
  • Overview of safety & human factors considerations
  • Lessons learned
