By contrast, applying an inappropriate degree-1 polynomial model is a lot easier as it only relies on having two datapoints and joining them by a straight line {see Topic 6}. In this extended Part B question, we would like you to consider a real-life phenomenon that should not be modelled by a degree-1 polynomial. For higher marks in this question, you should select a phenomenon associated your degree major. It might be something that you have seen in a Lab, or something that follows a known non-linear behaviour. For this part B question, you may decide to present your answer as a video, either by talking over some PowerPoint slides [like Ant. does for lecture videos] or as a head- and-shoulder video. If you choose to make a video, then please still present parts la] to lg} in order, including showing graphics and equations to justify what you are saying. a] Give a brief description of the phenomenon in everyday |ay~terms {i.e. suitable to be understood by a bright 12-year-old} [5 marks] b) Define the independent and dependent variable needed for any function that models your phenomenon [3 marks] c] Describe and/or sketch the shape that an appropriate model should have {you may use a computer here if you wish], explain what sort of functions are used usually used to model the phenomenon, and why a degree-1 polynomial is not appropriate [8 marks] d} By selecting two datapoints or observations taken from real life measurements [either by yourself or in the literature], produce a degree-1 polynomial model of your phenomenon.
