Vaccination Priority List

As announced by Malacaang and the Inter-Agency Task Force, mayors and governors are now part of the priority sectors to receive COVID-19 vaccine. Accordingly, local chiefs deserve to be vaccinated immediately as they play a significant role in enforcing government programs related to the containment and elimination of COVID-19 and in spearheading vaccination drives in their respective localities. Being part of A1.5, they come after the healthcare workers and comes before A2 or the senior citizens in the priority list. In March, there was a controversy involving several mayors who decided to get vaccinated even if they were then not part of the priority list. While some agree that their inclusion in the priority list is something necessary for their safety as they can also be considered as front liners, some regard this decision as a special accommodation for politicians and 'skipping the vaccine line.' This problem is not an isolated case in the Philippines as other countries also debate on the issue of politicians and government leaders being given priority in vaccination.
