Most people would agree that there certainly is no deficit of violence in today's society. We are bombarded with both real-life and fictional depictions of violence in the news, TV programs, movies, and in video games.

But what impact is it having on us as a society? Is it contributing to increasingly violent and aggressive behavior? Does learning occur by imitation?Psychologist Albert Bandura thought so and even in the 1960's he was concerned about the effect of media violence on behavior.

Instructions: After (a) Reading the section in your textbook on Observational Learning, (b) Viewing the Bobo Doll Experiment video, (Tag: violence) and (c) Reviewing at least 1 additional credible resource on the topic, respond to the following:

1. Discuss and cite theresearch findingsyou reviewed with regard to observational learning and violence (from textbook, video, and 1 additional resource).
2. What conclusions do you draw regarding theeffects of observing violent media on behavior, both as an individual and as a society?
3. Are violent video games more detrimental than violent TV programs and movies? Why or why not?
4. Do children need to be restricted from accessing violent media? What about adults? Why or why not?
