Motion: All businesses have an obligation to the environment even if it hurts the bottom line.

As the second speaker on the opposing side, construct your second speech (second speaker) for your side with the motion above.

Speaker 1 - For the motion.

According to the management study guide corporate social responsibility occurs when a firm operates in an ethical, sustainable way that recognizes its environmental and social implications. Listen till it considers human rights, the community, the environment, and the society in which it operates.

It is critical that your firm operates in a manner that exhibits social responsibility. Although it is not a legal necessity, it is considered good practice to consider social and environmental problems.

The framework of corporate social responsibility helps a corporation to improve its public image and attract consumers who share the same values; consequently, as a firm in a free market economy, its image in the eyes of its customers is highly significant.

The basic objective of a business is to generate a profit for its shareholders; it is not a charity with the goal of humanitarian endeavors; nevertheless, from an ethical position, this logic should be supplanted by another, which is that this is for the better benefit of the firm. No corporation should be expected to expend so many resources to the point of bankruptcy or death in order to give back to the environment; this should be viewed as a short-term liability for a long-term positive improvement.

Employees, who are the firm's capital, will suffer significantly if a corporation chooses to ignore this duty for the environment in which their capital lives, work, and goes to school. This will result in lower productivity and likely loss of future profit.

Speaker 2.- for the motion

Many businesses have made it their duty to uphold their social and environmental responsibilities regardless if they are small or large businesses. According to Author Neil Kokemuller from CHRON, he states that "demonstrating socially responsible behavior is a virtual must for a small business trying to compete against larger chains with greater bargaining power and exposure".

Businesses can encourage and showcase their social and environmental responsibilities by promoting environmentally friendly activities such as indicating the companies recycling initiatives and also placing efforts to eliminate paper procedures in favor of technology. These demonstrate a broader care for the environment that all residents enjoy.

While on the other hand larger corporations such as the Ford Motor Company can make greater efforts upholding their duties of social and environmental responsibilities.

The automotive companies have been seen as the heaviest polluters to the environment however, Ford Motor Company has led the way in changing the narrative by dramatically improving the efficiency of its manufacturing operations worldwide and increasing the use of renewable or "green" energy sources. Since 2000, Ford has reduced its global operating energy use by 30% (3 percent improvement from the previous year), CO2 emissions from facilities by 39% (11 percent improvement from the previous year), and water use by 43%. (21 percent improvement from a year ago). Ford increased energy efficiency in the United States by 4.5 percent, saving around $18 million.

Ford Motor Company has highlighted their efforts in reducing the environmental footprint emitted from their manufacturing operations and setting an example for other businesses to follow.
