Motivation John Sheen: After earning his degree in computer science, he landed a wellpaying job as a programmer for a large nongovernmental organization whose mission he strongly believed in. And, initially, he was happy with hisjob. Lately, however,John starts to feel anxious when his alarm goes off. He feels demotivated to go to work. Why ? After all, he's working in his chosen eld in an environment that matches his values. What else could he want? it is the end of his third year in is job. and John goes for his annual performance evaluation. He knows he is a competent programmer, but he also knows that at the moment his motivation is only the minimum required to get by. John's manager Laura Daniels begins the evaluation by inquiring about his professional goals. John admits that he has not thought much about that topic. Laura then asks if he is satisfied with his current position and if he feels that anything is missing. John tells Laura that while he enjoys programming, he feels isolated and misses interacting with other groups in the organization.
