Mr Humphreys is the manager of Dan's Car Showroom Ltd. His business sells new and second hand cars. On Tuesday last week, a rogue entered his showroom, and asked to test drive a second hand Volvo. The rogue negotiated a price with Mr Humphreys, and they agreed on a price of 4,500. The rogue produced a cheque book in the name of Mr Patel. Mr Humphreys asked him for further ID, and the rogue showed a recent phone bill, and an ID card for the local library, also in the name of Mr Patel. After examining the ID, Mr Humphreys accepted a cheque for 4,500 and allowed the rogue to drive the car away. Two days later, on the Thursday at 2pm, Mr Humphreys discovered the fraud when the cheque bounced. Mr Humphreys immediately informed the police. The police traced the car to Nisha Mehra, who claims she bought the car on Thursday at 1pm last week. It turns out that the cheque book and ID documents had been stolen from Mr Patel last week. Mr Humphreys is demanding that the car be returned to Dan's Car Showroom.
