Mr$.$ Osei Kwame Despite started his business life as a petty trader in padlocks, cassettes, and feeding bottles at Dunkwa Offin. Knowing his poor background, he was determined to make a difference through hard work. But due to the hardship and famine which occurred in Ghana in the $1980$s$,$ he moved to Nigeria to seek greener pastures. However, he was one of the numerous Ghanaian immigrants in Nigeria who were deported back to Ghana in $1983.$

Kwame returned home with just a chainsaw and a trident cassette player. So$,$ he decided to go into lumbering. On the very first day in the lumbering business, his chainsaw was crushed by a falling tree. Kwame was not discouraged about the turn of events and made the decision to return to his usual cassette business. Despite found success in the sale of the cassettes but found a decline in the radio industry. At that time, all the radio stations were broadcasting in English language so he decided to do something different. He recognized that a big section of the middle and lower class people in Ghana were missing out from the radio broadcast so he established his first FM station, the $$Peace FM$$ in Accra in Accra in $1999,$ broadcasting in the Akan language.

This innovation drastically changed the radio landscape and propelled him to success. He didn$$t invent the wheel to be successful, but he was innovative and creative. He found an existing problem and came up with a creative solution.

The most compelling story about the cassette seller who once lived in poverty, is now the CEO of Despite Group of Companies which includes three commercial FM stations, UTV, Best Point Savings & Loans, Salt Production Company, Neat Foods $($producers of neat fufu$)$ and many more.
