Mrs Ares is a topiarist. That is to say, she is an expert in the art of turning trees and hedges into beautiful sculptures through careful daily pruning. One day, Mrs Ares bought a very sharp new electric hedge-trimmer from her local hardware store and was trimming her hedge into the shape of a large cat when her neighbour, Mr Hermes, suddenly appeared and asked to borrow some sugar. Startled, 75-year-old Mrs Ares did not appreciate the interruption and so told Mr Hermes to "buzz off". She next showed Mr Hermes the new trimmer and then waved it at him in a scary fashion. Afraid, Mr Hermes responded by pulling hard on the cord of the trimmer to shut off the power. Consequently, and unexpectedly, the trimmer jolted violently and cut into Mrs Ares's cheek. An ambulance took her to the hospital, where she received three stitches. Later that week, Mrs Ares developed a rare skin infection and could no longer pursue her hobby as a topiarist. Her treating doctors are unsure whether the cut caused the infection or if it arose quite separately due to the regular scratches that she received in her garden work. Several other doctors think that the condition came about due to her frequent use of garden poison to keep down the weeds. In any event, Mrs Ares is on the warpath with Mr Hermes and seeks a remedy that will provide 'lots of money' to compensate her for her losses.
