1. Mrs. Gussman places a glass of iced tea too close to the edge of a wobbly end table. The table is bumped and the glass falls to the floor. Lets use this incident as an analogy for the spontaneity of chemical reactions.

• How would you characterize the falling of the glass in terms of spontaneity? What might the bump of the table represent?
• What if you wanted to place the contents back into the glass and return it to the tabletop would that represent a spontaneous or nonspontaneous reaction? Why do you say so?
