Ms. Figueroa is abducted at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Child Care Center, where she has just dropped her child off. She is sexually assaulted and slashed with a knife. The parking lot is owned by North Park College, which both informally and formally (via a letter written to the parents of children attending the Child Care Center) allows parents to use the parking lot. North Park employs off-duty police officers to patrol its campus, including the parking lot. Before thisincident, only minor crimes had occurred anywhere on campus.

Ms. Figueroa sues North Park for negligent failure to provide adequate security in the parking lot. Should Ms. Figueroa be treated as an invitee or a licensee? Is there any other legal theory she might rely on to establish a duty of protection?
