Ms. Vanessa Antale is a successful finance-officer in an Accra-based firm that recentl acquired a savings and loans firm operating in the northern sector of the country, including Bolgatanga, Tamale and Wa. Ms. Antaale has been acknowledged as the person to take ove these recently acquired footprints as the new Regional Chief Operating Officer (COO). The newly acquired a savings and loans firm has a long-standing reputation as a friendly institution with traditional values, and it prides itself on its exemplary customer service. The current staft has prepared a comprehensive package outlining the firm's vision and key customer success stories that demonstrate their commitment to exemplary service and low customer and employee turnover. It was a Monday morning and the COO, Ms. Antaale had called a meeting at 8 a.m. Ms. Antaale arrived at 7 a.m. and was surprised to find only a couple of employees present in the auditorium of the building where the meeting was to take place. Ms. Antaale began the meeting at 8a.m. sharp, with the auditorium seats half-filled. Though, Ms. Antale was perplexed at the turnout, he began the meeting. He informed those at the meeting that;
"Shareholder value is what it is all about. We are the stewards of this firm, and we have a responsibility to the shareholders."
Silence echoed in Ms. Antaale's ears. He continued by stating that;
"I expect total dedication. If you cannot commit to our new vision and strategies then this is not the right place for you. Commitment starts by being on time".
Ms. Antaale motioned to a staff standing next to the auditorium doors to close the doors and stated that;
"If employces cannot be here on time, then they cannot play in our sandbox".

Four months under his leadership, Ms. Antaale was presented with the firm's quarterly report results. The report showed that the firm achievenent was on target. However, employee turnover was increased by 30 percent. Among this, involuntary tumover was up 20 pereent Also, previous customer numbers were decreasing, and customer complaints were increasing. Ms. Antaale reviewed the report with his staff. When he asked them for imput, his request was greeted with silence. Ms. Antaale sensed an uneasy feeling in the room.
