Muttonia and Thatchland are two adjacent islands in the Atlantic. Each has a population of the plant maroonwort, a wildflower that grows in grassy meadows and produces seed pods at the end of each summer (Fig 1). Both islands are primarily grassland but Muttonia has a population of wild sheep that grazes the vegetation to a low height and creates patches of bare ground (Fig 2). Thatchland has no sheep and taller, more dense vegetation (Fig 3).
