Determine the acceleration of gravity by dropping an object from a measured height. Find a place where you can drop something from at least 15 feet (5 meters)--more is better. Get an accurate measurement of the height using a tape measure or some other means of equivalent accuracy. Drop a heavy, aerodynamic object (a rock about 2-3 inches in diameter). Time the fall using a stop watch of some kind (all of your smart phones have one somewhere). . Get three accurate times for the fall and average them. Use the formula g = 2x/t2 to calculate the acceleration of gravity (x is the distance in feet or meters, t is the time in seconds). Make sure you are using the right units! Compare (right on, really close, not even near, etc) your calculated value with the "real" value (32 ft/sZ or 9.8 m/sZ). Why do think you are not right on? Which of your measured quantities is most likely to be off significantly? Never blame "human error" for any problems. That phrase is meaningless. Expalin what error the human might have made
