My preferred approach to handling conflict is through compromise and problem solving. I believe that in these two approaches, I can resolve conflict in a more efficient and effective manner. Having open communication with both parties which main goal is to reach common ground and result to productivity.
In my previous job, I worked with another department, but we reached an impasse. Since Im with marketing where campaigns cost money to turn vision into dreams and the other teams is mainly concerned with cash Financial department weve received an impasse if the cost of campaign outweighs the benefit it can give the company.
In general, when I encounter conflicts, Im usually patient than reactive. And Id like to address the concern in a professional level and not attach in a personal matter. With the twoconflict approach which was mentioned above Compromise & Problem Solving we were able to address the situation and compromise a change in the budget that is both beneficial for my proposed campaign and the companys finances.
As discussed in class and with the modules given, conflict can be dysfunctional to an organization and may cause a negative workplace environment. But a moderate amount of conflict can be healthy as this promotes problem solving and develops negotiation skills and conflict resolutions of employees. This it to better equip them to any circumstance that may arise especially if everyone is under pressure. Now with this, I see conflict in a more positive manner only by categorizing which conflict can be healthy, as this opens door for individual and organization improvement.
Learnings during class Salary negotiations:
Dont give an exact salary amount, rather give a range of number.
Being familiar with industry salaries. Different online platforms offer a way for candidates to determine the salary range of the position theyre applying. I utilize this by checking LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor.
Adjust expected salary in terms of the work scope. The job description posted may be vague and cannot determine all job responsibilities and can only be identified after the interview with the hiring manager.
Be open for negotiations. If the job position is the same for the companies applying for, salary is not only determinant for choosing which company to go for. Benefits and additional company offer can also be a determinant to weigh in
Rather than accepting the offer immediately, if you know youre worth you can try to negotiate to have better salary and benefits. Be confident but keeping in mind not too be emotional and by having realistic expectations.
My negotiation style is the Integrative Approach. Ive had job interviews and salary negotiations before, the learnings written above helped me get better compensation and benefits. I take time to do my research to better understand the company, job opportunity and the right approach to stand out. With the added knowledge in this course, I am more confident on how to deal with negotiations andor conflict as I have now better knowledge in the area.
