My topic was on GMOs, specifically what the chemicals found in GMOs can do to a persons health. The most interesting thing that I discovered about my issue was how much glyphosate is found in GMOs. There is definitely an overuse of this chemical. I was even more surprised to find out that glyphosate is most commonly sprayed onto crops such as oats, beans, wheat, potatoes, sugar beats, and much more. This chemical has also been classified as a probable human carcinogen, which means that it is most likely cancer causing. I found this information interesting because I did not know that this chemical was found on so many crops. Many of these crops are foods that I consume quite frequently. It was a bit alarming. My topic is relevant to me personally because my cousin has always lived a very healthy lifestyle and buys a lot of foods from the store that are labeled as "Non GMO". I asked her one day what her reasoning was behind that choice, and she told me that it was "just healthier". So, I wanted to learn more about why GMO foods are not as healthy.
