In this instance the assumption of the null hypothesis is that the fiber, being made by the same supplier and in the same style, will cause no significant alteration in the fiber density and therefore air permeability of the finished product(Anderson et al., 2021). The alternative hypothesis, by contrast, is that the specific fiber finish level or variation in denier within each bale may indeed cause the material to become more densely packed when going through the carding process causing a higher weight concentration and a greater restriction of air flow (Rafferty, 2Plea018). For the sake of simplicity, we will say that in this example the expected change in ounce per square yard (OPSY) in one finished batt is less than 1 opsy for the null hypothesis.

H0: 1 Null hypothesis is less than or equal to 1 opsy of additional weight density.

H1: > 1 the alternative hypothesis is greater than 1 opsy of additional weight density.
