NAME: DATE: COURSE & YEAR: Laboratory & Activity#: man COLLISION (CompEng122 Physics for Engineers) cm Learning outcomes: Evaluate the relationship of the law of restitution to other categories of the law obligations ent and to equity. t to Explain and apply to a complex hypothetical factual problem Relate restitution to hooke's law Differentiate restitution to collision. In a collision, there must be at least two bodies involved. The impact maybe perfectly elastic, less elastic or inelastic. The coefficient of restitution (e) of the two bodies colliding is the ratio of their relative velocity after collision to their relative velocity before the collision. Relative velocity is the vector difference of velocity between the two bodies. In simplest form, the coefficient of restitution is expressed as: E= Where: Hi=known height H2=rebound eight If the value of e is equal to 1, the collision is perfectly elastic. If e is equal to 0, the collision is in elastic. If the value of e is greater than 1, the collision is less elastic. Objective: To measure the coefficient of restitution of a metal ball colliding with a concrete floor MATERIALS: Metal ball Meter stick PROCEDURE: Drop the metal ball from a known height(hl) by the side of a meter stick wich is in vertical position carefully me lly measure the height of the rebound (h2). 2. Make 8 observations for different known height. 1 . Computation and Analysis: Compute the coefficient of restitution in each trial and get the average.NAMI 2. Plot the rebound heights along y-axis and the known heights along x-axis. Find the slope of the COUR graph and get the square root of it. This value represents the value of the coeffic coefficient of restitution.
