NAME: DATE: FPC 1010: Math for the Arts Tessellation Project Materials needed: * Scissors * Tape + Index card/construction paper, cardboard (recommended, but not necessary) Blank sheet of paper (8.5" x 117) y Creating your tessellation tile for the square. 1. Cut the square out (found on the second page). You can trace 1t on an index card, construction paper or cardboard to make your tile sturdier, but it is not necessary. - 2. On one side of your square, draw a random line from one vertex of the side to the other vertex of the side. This line does not have to be straight. It can be squiggly, A smooth. jagged, whatever you want. P > 3. Cut along vour line and tape it to one of the opposite side. 4. Do this for the other sides. TR Creating your tessellation. 1. On your blank piece of paper, trace your tessellation tile in the middle of the paper. 2. Move your tessellation file to line up with the sides of the traced drawing so there are no gaps or overlaps. 3. Do tlus for the entire piece of paper. Continue to the edge. 4. Does your shape resemble an object? Look for a creative way to draw and color your tessellation piece. Use M_C. Escher's work as inspiration. Finished Assignment 1. You will need to submit pictures of three things next week. a. Tiling Worksheet b. The tessellation tile you created c. Fimshed tessellation piece 2. Let's be creative! NOTE: Possible project topic: If you choose to do a tessellation as a project, you will need to choose a different shape that tiles.
