Name: Marking Scheme Marks Launch Day Within 90% of the target -> 8/8 . Within 85% of the target target = Within 70% of the target 18 . Within 75% of the target Actual Landing = Within 60% of the target Within 50% of the target Percent of target = Within 40% of the target Within 30% of the target > 1/8 Launch Speed Calculations Sufficient number for measurements/data points to calculate the launch speed. 15 Complete calculations/work shown when calculating the launch speed Written Analysis An explanation/description on how the energy is gained /4 An explanation/description on how the energy expended Quality of construction Is it carefully constructed and well made? Is it sturdy? 13 . Can it perform the task again? Does it work smoothly and reliably? Penalties Cannot fit through the door -> zero on the entire project!! Cannot be assembled/restarted in ten minutes -> 2 marks off . . No disposal of the project in a week > 2 marks off Additional trials -> 0.5 mark off for each trial Total Mark 120Horizontal Projectile Launcher Challenge The Project You are to design and build a contraption that launches an object horizontally. The contraption should be extremely reliable and predictable. You will then measure the horizontal launch speed of your projectile and must be able to conrm this horizontal launch speed. Design Requirements The contraption must be able to tit through the door. The contraption must launch something horizontally into the air. You must be able to assemble or reset the contraption in less than 10 minutes. (You must be ready to go within ten minutes ofthe start of the class.) Written Calculations 8: Analysis 1 . 2. You must show measurements and calculations on how you determined the horizontal launch speed ofthe projectile. You must explain how your horizontal launcher works. Explain any energy transfer that exist in your launcher. For example, the projectile that is launched, you will describe wherefhow the energy and the type of energy is given to the projectile and how it is expended. You may include diagrams or pictures of the mechanism that you are describing the energy transfer to help your explanation. Check Point (Due 1 week before Launch Day June 5'\") You must have a picture/video of your work in progress. You must explain to your teacher how the projectile is being launched to ensure you are only launching the projectile horizontally. Launch Day 1 . Be sure to have your horizontal projectile ready to launch within 10 minutes from the start ot'class. 2. You will inform your teacher the horizontal launch speed to your teacher. 3. Based on your horizontal launch speed, your teacher will place a target at the correct place your projectile should land. 4. Hopefully, your projectile will be reliable and consistent and will launch at the horizontal speed you calculated and land on the target, 5. You will get one treebee trial it'your horizontal projectile launcher misses the target on the rst try. There will be a deduction of'/z mark for each additional trial. Penalties PWNT' The contraption will not be accepted if it cannot fit through the door! There will be a 10% penalty if the contraption is not ready ten minutes into class. There will be a 2.5% penalty for each additional trial. There will be a 10% penalty for n_ot disposing the project within a week
