need a response to a classmate discussion answer According to the updated neural diathesis-stress model, the vulnerability factors of developing schizophrenia include genetic factors, neurobiological factors, stress and HPA axis dysregulation, sex differences, early developmental factors, and sociodemographic factors(Pruessner et al., 2017). Genetic factors increase vulnerability to schizophrenia in the sense that persons with first-degree relatives with schizophrenia are at a greater risk of developing the condition. Neurobiological factors such as brain structure influence the possibility of developing schizophrenia. For instance, anabnormal brain structure, such as reduced hippocampal volume, increases the vulnerability to schizophrenia(Pruessner et al., 2017). Also, early developmental difficulties such as stress during pregnancy or complications duringchildbirthincrease therisk of schizophrenia. Similarly, sociodemographic factors influence the possibility of developing schizophrenia, where people from low economic backgrounds and particular ethnicities are at a greater risk of developingthe condition.
The updated neural diathesis-stress-model significantly improved the understanding and treatment ofschizophrenia. That is because the updated list ofpredisposing factors has identified all possible risk factors contributing to schizophrenia(Pruessner et al., 2017). The identification of all those factors has helped in developing appropriate intervention measures for the treatment of the condition.
It is my opinion that people with schizophrenia should have their civil liberties restricted. That is because the condition affects their mind and thinking capacity, andtheycannotbe held legally liable for any acts of commission or omission(Melinda, 2022). Therefore, their freedoms, such assitting on a jury, registering a firearm, or voting, should be restricted since theycannotmake rational choices.
