As I reviewed and reflected on leadership as a vocation, I was reminded of how my perception and definition of leadership changed because of GCU. Leadership as a vocation means the leader makes moral and ethical decisions with the understanding of their influence on others (Leadership as a Vocation, 2015). Effective leaders have a collection of leadership traits and philosophies to use as tactics in their arsenal. Leaders may choose to adopt leadership as a vocation stemming from a want to make a difference in an ever-changing world of diversity and economic growth (Leadership as a Vocation, 2015). The leadership theories that I found aligned with my personal ethics and principles are servant leadership and transformational leadership because they are both positive and focus and uplifting and empowering others. I am not interested in leading others through a title or position of power, I am interested in improving the well being of others so that the impact is profound and positively affects all aspects of their lives. I thought I wanted a degree to be manager however now I have learned what I wanted was to find the most effective way to make a meaningful impact in leading others. This has shown my growth as I have come to understand my vision and how to implement leadership to reach my goals.
