Need help answering my fellow classmate's Discussion.

First, as an officer you took an oath to protect and serve the people who pays your salary through their tax dollars. The mayor violated a traffic violation and therefore should be held accountable for his or her actions. However, the Captain is entitled to voice his opinion of telling me I screwed up (Amendment 1). However, I would inform the captain the consequences of running a red light. She could have injured or killed someone from her actions. We cannot expect the citizens who we serve to adhere to rules, regulations, and or guidelines if we do not lead by example. I would also inform the captain, that I am on the side of right. Traffic rules apply to "EVERYONE" according to the Department of Highway Safety and or FDOT, and we all must abide by those rules. If everyone ran redlights, it would be a catastrophic environment out there.

Secondly, I would do like I would anyone else who is driving erratically across lanes and speeding. I would do what I was hired and took an oath to do, serve and protect. Our elected officials must be held accountable again for their actions. This is the number one reason our citizens do not respect the law and officials. We are held at and higher standard and should exemplify just that. In the world of public officials, someone is always watching with their phones ready to record. I would proceed with my normal traffic stop like with anyone else. However, I am protected by the whistleblower protection act. I would apply the exact same method if it was an officer and or friend. I have a job to do, and plan to do it to the fullest. Ignoring these behaviors will cause for terrible backlash from the community and at this point your career is then tainted if you go along with wrongdoing of any officials.

Lastly, there is always an IA (Internal Affairs) and doing corrupt things like this could eventually get you indicted on federal charges. According to (Pollock, 2018), term duties refer to those actions that an individual must perform to be considered moral.

Real-life: According to (Stockard, 2022) many law officials have been charged with DUI's. These law makers were Republicans and Democrats. If this were a citizen without any officials' ties, he or she would have been dismissed no questions asked.
