Manager Competencies

There are a few competencies such as knowledge, skills, and abilities that will affect the

support of change management plans. When great leaders are being thought of, certain traits and

proficiencies tend to make them stand out. They have skills and knowledge that go above and

beyond what is normally expected. An example is to build trust within the organization. Building

trust is not a trait that always comes naturally to a leader; being able to gain others' trust is

something they must learn over time to become successful. In order to build trust within an

organization, it is significant for their actions to gain themselves respect and not the alternative.

Good leaders are consistent and transparent and involve other employees in decision making

processes that may affect them rather than independently making the choice.

A coach or mentor influences change acceptance because people in these roles tend to

have strong personalities who are looked up to and easily trusted. When coaching and mentoring

is not a significant part of the development model, employees tend to leave the organization in

search of other opportunities for growth and success. They build better relationships with

employees, and those employees are more likely to work harder to succeed. Coaching helps to alleviate problems sooner rather than later, whereas mentoring builds loyalty which makes

employees willing to go the extra mile because they hope to see an advancement for their future

in the organization. Pronounced organizations combine mix both coaching and mentoring

strategies to develop a group of strong and efficient individuals to become the next set of

company leaders. Giving employees a chance to succeed at what they do and advance their

career level, helps organizations recruit top talent and keep them long term (Leonard, 2018).
