Evaluate completely the following statement: "The issue is not whether there is variation, but whether the variation is significant". Be specific with data types from the study set up in the Modules 3-6 homework assignments.Your answer should include an understanding of statistical confidence and the null hypothesis.
The statement "The issue is not whether there is variation, but whether the variation is significant' is true in the business world today there are many variations within products and services that could lead to a disappointment for the consumer and a loss for the company.
In Module 3 the mustard seed company in Colombia conducted a study to test the weight of the packages is at least 1.7 ounces. The sample mean is equal to 1.72 ounces and the standard deviation equals 0.15029 with a sample size of 36 we would be able to use the central limit theorem. The mean of weight for the null hypothesis is at 1.72 ounces while the mean weight of the alternative hypothesis being different than the 1.72 ounces. The result shows that the null hypothesis was acceptable since the calculation was less than 1.96. The recommendation for the seed company was to either decrease the package size or to keep as is and not having to calibrate the equipment.
A company needs to consider if the level of variation can be detected in their products and if the changes will make any significate difference by a small margin. In today's business the variation would be accepted by a company if it cannot be detected and no changes would need to be made. If the is a large margin the company needs to consider making changes to the product or how production is completed. If the company decides to ignore the issue it will cause a decrease in sales and unsatisfied consumers. From the example above, it shows that a company needs to conduct a survey the populations of the data types to find out if the means of the populations are the same or different. If the survey shows not difference in the sampling between the populations it will show a null hypothesis.
