The resource based view is a model that identifies what the company is good at and has an advantage over their competitors in. The VRIO framework is an acronym for identifying a core competency. The acronym stands for Valuable, Rare, Costly to Imitate, and Organized to capture the value of the resource. VRIO is useful in identifying how good a core competency really is. A good example of a company that has a competitive advantage over their competitors would be Amazon and their quick delivery systems. There are Amazon warehouses all over America and there really aren't any companies in the United States that are competing with them heavily. There is a Chinese Company called Alibaba which is very similar to Amazon but much smaller. They also have warehouses all through China which make it the easiest method of getting things online in the respective areas. Alibaba has done very well in China and the majority of Asia as a whole but Amazon is more prominent in Europe and North America.
