Negligence question

Harry owns a car and gets regular maintenance on it.He takes it to the repair shop for an oil change.The mechanic notices that the brakes on the car are old and worn.The mechanic tells Harry that the brakes should be replaced.The mechanic tells Harry that new brakes will cost $500.Harry thinks that the price is too high.Harry decides to look for a cheaper price at another repair shop.He does not get the brakes replaced.

Harry is very busy with work and family.Four months pass and Harry hasn't gotten the brakes replaced.Harry drives the car to and from work and on some family trips.One day, on his way home from work, the following happens.

Harry is approaching an intersection with a traffic light.Harry sees that the traffic light is red.Harry applies the brakes but the car won't stop.Harry presses the brakes as hard as he can.However, the car won't stop.Harry's car rolls through the intersection.He narrowly misses two cars and a pedestrian in the crosswalk.Harry manages to steer the car into a gas station parking lot where it comes to a stop.Harry calls a tow truck and has the car taken to a repair shop.

Explain why Harry is or isn't liable for negligence if someone sues him.
