Used Scooter Negotiation Simulation Green Buyer Information Fall 2015 You are a law school student who has been renting an apartment within walking distance of campus. You have decided that your rent is too high and you want to move further away from campus, but you do not want to rely on the bus system to get you to and from the university. You would also like to be able to visit some of the places in the countryside on weekends, since you have not been able to see much of the region since moving to Santa Clara. You estimate that you can save $5000 in rent over the coming year, and so you can afford to spend $2500 on personal transportation. Rather than buy a car, you have decided to buy a motorcycle or scooter, and your parents have agreed to lend you up to $2500 for one year. They have given you $500 to put down as a deposit if you find a bike to buy, and will be able to get a bank check for up to $2000 within 72 hours after you agree to a purchase. You have narrowed down your choices for make and model and have decided that you want to buy a Vespa GT200, and have found two listings on Craigslist that you hope to buy, both listed for $2800. One scooter is red, and the other is blue. As far as you can tell, there are no other meaningful differences between them. Your older brother, who made a similar purchase two years ago on the other side of the country, has encouraged you to make your purchase contingent on having a mechanic inspect the bike, so that you can be sure that it is in good condition.
