Part A

Susan owns and manages a nail salon. She is currently arranging insurance for the salon. Advise Susan whether she is required to disclose the following facts to her intended insurer and, in each case, explain your reasoning in a sentence or two.

1. Several chemicals used in the salon are highly flammable.
2. Ten years ago Susan had an insurance claim declined on the basis of suspected fraud.
3. Eight years ago Susan was convicted on multiple charges of theft and served one year in prison.
4. One of Susan's employees, who is twenty-five years old, was convicted five years ago of graffiti vandalism for which she was fined $800.
5. Susan has installed an expensive, state of the art, burglar alarm system in the salon.

Part B

Susan has heard that the Government has decided to reform insurance law and she understands that MBIE (the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment) is currently working towards finalising a Bill for introduction to Parliament in mid-2023. She is wondering why the decision was made to reform insurance law and what the potential implications of this may be for her as a business owner.
