Online Lab Scale Models Week 2+ Purpose

pnline Lab Purposee Scale Models Week 2 Extend the ideas in the Scale Models online labe Practice doing unit conversionse Work with exponentse Plot and interpret a logarithmic or "powers of ten" graph. Apply the ideas of this lab in an experiment of the student's own design. What You Will Neede Graph paper (you can print out the page in this lab) or a ruler to let you make your own graph. Any materials needed for your Exploration Experiment (see below). Preparation Review the online lecture Ola-lntroduction and Olb-Math (especially the first 2 parts on units and exponents). In addition, review Scale Models Week 1 lab. Note that there are two sections to this lab: the first is a Skill Building section that involves creating a graph of the data from the Scale Models Week 1 lab. The second is an Exploration Experiment in which you create your own experiment or model using the ideas from this lab and the Week 1 lab. Section 1: Skill Buildinge 1.1 Creating the Graph: Introduction This lab starts with graphing the data from the Scale Model Lab Week 1. This is a bit of a challenge given the wildly different scales we're working with. We're also going to add in some data from the stellar scale. Remember that the stellar scale means the distances to the stars around us. The stellar scale lies between the planetary and galactic scales so it will help us bridge that gap. In Table I below we have listed the distances and diameters of several bright stars in our sky. NOTE: If you're working in a group everyone should create their own graphs.
