Newton is going to attempt to kill Einstein by chopping him into pieces using the Newtonian Blades of Death. The blades are separated by 1m and fall instantly and simultaneously. Einstein is 2m tall and flies from left to right under the blades. Newton, standing next to the leftmost blade, pulls the lever at the moment that Einstein's foot just passes the leftmost blade, thinking that this will position the right blade in the center of Einstein and will cut him in two.
a. How fast does Einstein have to fly to not be chopped by the blades?
b. In Einstein's frame, how separated are the blades? How tall is einstein in his fram? Is he chopped into bits in his fram or not?
c. Calculate the space-time coordinates of the relevant events (blade 1 falling, blade 2 falling) in each reference frame.
d. Calculate the invariant space-time interval from the point of view of each observer. Do they agree?
This is from a special relativity lab so I'm not sure if that helps with what formulas to use. The formulas I have are :
1) gamma = 1/ (sqrt 1-v^2/c^2)
2) delta t = gamma x delta t0
L= L0/gamma
3) u= v+u / 1+ vu/c^2)
4) delta s = c^2 x delta t - delta x^2 - delta y^2 - delta z^2
