NFL Pre-Season Teams in the National Football League (NFL) play four preseason games (at least between 2005-2019 when data was collected; it is now 3 games) each year before the regular season starts. Do teams that do well in the preseason tend to also do well in the regular season? We are interested in whether there is a positive linear association (i.e., a positive correlation) between the number of wins in the preseason and the number of wins in the regular season for teams in the NFL. a. What are the null and alternative hypotheses for testing if there is a positive correlation between number of preseason wins and number of regular season wins? b. The correlation between these two variables for the 32 NFL teams over the 15 year period from 2005 to 2019 was r = 0.118. Use this sample (n = 480) to calculate the appropriate test statistic and determine the p-value for the test. Note: You will need to use a t-distribution with the appropriate degrees of freedom in StatKey to find the p-value. Please include the value of the test statistic, the appropriate degrees of freedom, and the p-value in your answer. c. State the conclusion in context, using = .05
