The Medford Country Airport at Long Plains, Nebraska has experienced increased air traffic over the past year.How passenger traffic flow is handled is important toairport management.Because of the requirement that all passengers must be checked for possible weapons, passenger flow has slowed significantly.MedfordCountry Airport uses eight metal detector devices to screen passengers.The airport is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily , and present machinery allows a maximum of 45,000 passengers to be checked each day.

Four of the metal detector machines have been selected for special analysis todetermine if additional equipment is needed or if a passenger traffic director couldsolve the problem.The passeger traffic director would be responsible for guiding people to different machines and instructing them on the detection process. Management hopes this proceudre will quicken passenger traffic flow.Makers ofthe machinery have stated that each machine can handle an average of 400 passengers per hour.Data on passenger traffic through the four machines for the past 10 days is shown below:
