Northwestern Di5pu1e_ Resolution Kellogg 332:?\" College Town Apartments Role ofI'rtt By Leigh Thompson College Toun Apartments is a large apartment complex located close to the University. College Toun Apartnents are owned and managed by a local family, the Spencer's. The Spence-rs have several rental properties in the area. College Town Apartments have several types of units. including four-bedroom. three-bedroom, two-bedroom. and onebedroom apartments. The most common unit is the twobedroom, onebathroom unit. You and Chris are both in your third year at the University. You met each other through mutual friends, and share common interests in many areas. Approximately four months ago: you and Chris moved into Unit 4C in College Town Apartments. The two of you signed a oneyear lease and moved into a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. The monthly rent: which you and Chris agreed to split each month__ is $950. In the past four months. you and Chris have experienced many problems. In the past week the situation between you and Chris reached a boiling point. You normally send in a single check for the rent after Chris gives you a check for hali'the rent. You do not really know why it is your job to do this. Because Chris is literally never in the apartment. these tasks somehow naturally fall on your shoulders. You have generously agreed to take care of this task because frankly. Chris can't be trusted to do anything on time. Chris never says thank you and yet. you buy the envelopes and stamps and go to the post ofce. For the last couple of months. you have had to remind Chris to write a check for the rent. You do not like to be in this position. To make matters worse: Chris is never around so you have to conform to Chris' schedule to try to make sure that your paths cross so that all the business matters can be worked out. Last week the rent was due and Chris had not given you a check. You left a couple of messages on the kitchen counter for Chris: saying. \"Rent due now!\" You also sent him-her two text messages aslcing whether the rent check was ready. 'When a day passed and you still didn't get the check. you thought that the best thing to do would be to send a check with your half of the rent check on time and let Chris send hisher check on his-her own. So you put your check in the mail to the Spencers. with a note indicating that the 3:135 was for your hali'of the rell. You are particularly disturbed by all of this because this was a really hard week for you. You had three midterms in very important classes and were very concerned about an important job interview coming up. You feel that Chris was really being inconsiderate and lazy. Tonight. Chris came home and beat loudly on your door. Chris had stayed out very late, aer midnight as usual. and was invading your room to make demands. Apparently: Chris had gotten an email om the Spencers. indicating that there would he a late charge of 520 per day assessed on the rent that Chris had not sent in. Chris insisted that you pay part of the late charge on the missed rent payment. (As the rent was due 5 days ago. the late fee is now $100.) 1J'u'hen you managed to get a word in the midst of Chris: shouting and accusations. you explained that you had left messages about the rent being due and had sent two text messages asking whether hisrher portion of the rent check was ready. You felt that it was really not your problem to pay for Chris' mistake, much less to be a constant reminder for Chris a'an's. Chris marched out of your bedroom at that point and returned with a rent check :t'o1'$4'.-'5.UCI enclosed in an envelope with your name on it. Chris claimed that the checkhadbeenonyour deskforthat entire week You said that you had not seen any check anywhere that week and that if Chris were around more oen to take care of a'airs. instead of depending on you problems like this would not happen At this point, Chris's phone range and he/she stepped You felt so nervous about your midterms the next into the living room to take the call. You thought that morning and the job interview that it was hard to this was really the ultimate: Chris storms into your concentrate after being awakened in the middle of the bedroom wakes you up during the worst week of night. You said that there was no reason for you to your life to talk about how Chris can't manage pay any of the late charge. Chris started to yell some his/her own financial affairs and wants you to pay for more. it - and then starts a phone conversation at 1 am! Chris is really inconsiderate. You wonder what to do
