Notes: Recall Marys Electrical Supplies and Services from Assignment 1. Please refer to its text as needed. The software project described in Assignment 1 is put on hold, because Mary is dealing with a new issue. See below.

Business issue: The sales side of Marys business is growing. Mary has a hard time keeping those items in stock, given the limited space in the shop.

Solution: To keep up with the demand, Mary has decided to keep a larger inventory. She has rented a separate facility where she can store large quantities of the fast-selling items. To manage the second facility, she has hired Andrea, who will work part time.

As you may recall, there are two processes in this business: Keep the shop stocked and perform electrical service. With the changes brought by the recent expansion, these two processes are also impacted. See the changed descriptions of each of the processes.

Keep the shop stocked: Mary periodically monitors the items in the shop. If an item is running low, she adds them to the supply list. She determines a due date to each item she adds, by estimating when they will run out. Before the earliest due date arrives, she sends the supply list to Andrea with due dates. Andrea is responsible for planning to deliver the supplies to the shop by the due dates. If the items are in stock in the second facility, she delivers them to the shop. If not, she adds them to her purchase list with due dates. She orders the items in her list, picks them up and re-stocks the warehouse. She then delivers Marys requested items.

Note: Mary does not have a purchase list anymore. She just has a supply list that is only sent to Andrea. Andrea is the one with the purchase list.

Perform electrical service: When a customer requests service from the shop, Mary reviews Mikes calendar and makes an initial appointment with the customer. She adds the appointment to Mikes calendar. Mike goes to the appointment and develops a plan for the work, which determines what supplies he needs and how long the work will take. He then makes the appointment with the customer to perform the work and adds it to his calendar. Mike sends the list of all the supplies he needs for the work to Andrea with their due dates. If an item is out of stock in the shop, Andrea adds it to the purchase list with a due date that is before the service appointment. If the item is in stock, Andrea puts as many as them that Mike needs on hold. If the stock for any of the on-hold items go below the threshold, she adds them to the purchase list. On the day of the service appointment, Mike goes to the warehouse and loads all the supplies to the van and takes them to the location where he performs the service.

Note: Mike does not go to the shop anymore. He requests everything he needs from Andrea in the warehouse. He also never picks up supply orders from the suppliers. Andrea takes care of that now.

Assignment: Use StarUML to create swimlane diagrams (activity diagrams with swimlanes) for the following two processes:

  1. Keep the shop and the warehouse stocked
  2. Perform electrical service

Take screenshots of the diagrams and use the Insert->Picture function of MS Word to put the screenshots in the designated places below.

Process 1
