Nurse Helena is a clinical nurse manager for a 24-bed burn unit and is responsible for evaluating all day-shift employees who work in the unit. The hospital has a process whereby all employees are evaluated in the month of June. Nurse Helena has a total of 33 full-time and part-time employees whom she must evaluate. For the past four months, the unit has been at capacity and short-staffed, so she has not been able to keep up with monthly records of employee performance. It is now May, and the first evaluations should be scheduled for the first week in June. Because of the urgency of completing the evaluations, Nurse Helena schedules one day to observe all employees. During the observation day, she takes notes but realizes that she has only observed those employees who worked that day. Because of the time constraints, she decides to evaluate the rest of the employees whom she has not observed from events she remembers
