Objective: Collecting and writing requirements

The main two categories of the Requirements are:

1. Business requirements. These include high-level statements of goals, objectives, and needs.
2. User Requirements
   1. Stakeholder requirements: Various needs of different stakeholder groups are also specified to define what they expect from a particular solution.
   2. Solution requirements: This describes the characteristics of the product as must haves to meet the needs of the stakeholders and the business.

• Nonfunctional requirements describe the general characteristics of a system.
• Functional Requirements describe what the system must do.

In this activity, we will see some examples of writing requirements, that will be placed in SRS.

Non-Functional Requirements Examples:

Security:

Access permissions for the particular system information shall only be changed by the systems data administrator.

Performance:

PR001

The front-page load time shall not be more that 2 seconds for users that access the website using an LTE mobile connection

Scalability:

The website attendance limit shall be scalable enough to support 200,000 users at a time.

Reliability of Patience monitoring system

RR001

the system may fail for up to 1hr/year, but in those cases doctors/nurses should be alerted of the failure. More frequent failure of individual components is not acceptable.

For a new ATM system, you have been told to make an intuitive and self-explanatory system and the

requirement statement is 95% of the existing bank customers shall be able to withdraw money and deposit cheques within two minutes of encountering the product for the first time

Functional Requirements Example

A few functional requirements for a customer to work on an interface software:

CR001	A customer shall be able to engage their menu by double tapping the activated surface computer in their table.
CR002	A customer shall be able to dismiss their menu by double tapping its dismiss option.

Another user of the system is the chef. The requirements for the chef are:

CHR1	A chef shall be able to accept a customers order item through a display.
CHR2	A chef shall be able to reject a customers order item through a display.

A web-based system is developed that will support the marketing of products of the company XYZ ltd. directly to its customers as well as through the existing sales agent network. Right now, advertising of products, inventory control, and account billing are not part of this project. For this project, a web search engine and language translator will be obtained as purchased components. Their internal details are not part of this project. Issues of website security, other than Password Protection within the site, are not part of this project.

Diplomacy is a classic game of political intrigue and military power. Typically, there are between 2 and 7 players and the objective is to achieve dominance of Europe. The rules of the game are easy but playing diplomacy requires careful analysis, and involves negotiation between the players. The goal of this project is to develop a computer version of the diplomacy game that is interactive, visually attractive and incorporates an effective tool for the negotiation between players. The project also involves the implementation of known diplomacy tactics so that the computer can act as one of the players in the game. Given its nature, it is required that the game is implemented in such a way that each player can access the program from different locations.

Functional Requirements:

• Host multiple games simultaneously
• Users able to playing more than one game at a time
• Individual profiles for each user
• Track the history of a game (such as orders and messages)
• Handle the creation, continuation and ending of a game
• Implement the 2000 rule book rules

Non-functional requirements:

• Accessible to users on the internet with just a web browser
• Platform and browser independent client
• Server works with Apache Tomcat and MySQL Database
• Flexibility in both the rules and map, e.g. ability to implement more than one map, and for the adjudicator to use more than one set of rules
• Easy to use interface for a Diplomacy novice, one that is useable and visually attractive
