Objectives

Humans have a long history of moral failure, and we have all made choices that we regret, choices that have harmed ourselves or others. There is, however, good news: we all have an opportunity to learn from those mistakes and develop stronger character.

In cheating or plagiarizing, you have made choices that have damaged your reputation, your relationship with your instructor, and your relationship with Ambrose University. Moreover, these choices could result in further harm to your career and to Ambrose and its reputation. But Ambrose is a place of grace: we want you to learn and grow, and we believe wholeheartedly that you can. We want to see you fully restored to a positive relationship with your instructor and the university, and we want to see you go on and thrive professionally and personally. This assignment gives you an opportunity for this type of restorative learning.

This assignment, then, asks you to reflect on what you have learned about academic integrity. In this assignment, you should answer the following questions:

What is academic integrity? More specifically, what is plagiarism? What is cheating?

Why does academic integrity matter?

In the future, what tools and strategies can you use to establish and maintain your academic integrity?

To answer these questions, you should reflect on what you have learned in the Academic Integrity lesson on Moodle and the "So(u)rcery: Using Your Sources" workshop that you did with me. You should also reflect on any feedback you have received from your instructors, from the dean, or from other academic mentors when it comes to academic integrity. You are welcome to do additional research, too.
