Of greater importance than sheer numbers is the fact that well over two-thirds of the worlds poorest are also located in rural areas and engaged primarily in subsistence agriculture. Agriculture is still a major contributor to Less Developed Countries Gross Domestic Product. Also, the agricultural sector in particular, and the rural economy in general, must play an indispensable part in any overall strategy in economic growth.
